Why is it that Cristian took the time to invest in a Wright CNC Plasma Table for a business he has constructed from the ground up creating everything by hand?
Cristian Sosa took the motorcycle and metalworking industries by storm with his handcrafted bike the "Space Traveler." It was a 1946 Knucklehead, which was modeled after a George Daniels watch. Daniels was a Horologist (people who study time) and he constructed some of the most precise and upscale handcrafted watches in the past century. A self-taught watchmaker like Sosa who is also a self-taught metal fabricator - the "Space Traveller's Watch" was one of the first Daniels every built for himself. The watch was recently sold for £1,329,250 in 2012 and then again for £3,196,250 when it was resold in 2017.
In the interview below Sosa discusses how he got started working with his hands by his grandmother and father and how that progressed into metal fabrication. In an interview with ARC about Making The Best Of The Tools At Hand Cristian Sosa discusses his process for perseverance in metal fabrication and not having excuses.
“One of the most important ideas I try to get across is that you don’t need anything special to do metal shaping or fabrication,” he says. “I try to eliminate the excuse about ‘I can’t do this kind of work because I don’t have this or that piece of equipment.’ You can handle just about any project with whatever you have available to you, just by using your mind and figuring things out.”
